PSALM 83

Though this psalm speaks of Israel's enemies, in the New Testament the Church becomes the people of God.  Who are the enemies of the Church? In many nations, Christians are killed or persecuted for their belief in Christ. Even those within the Church, can cause untold damage through gossip, unforgiveness, self seeking egos and by setting up idols of "tradition" or persons seeking power for themselves. The psalmist prayer for such enemies, "As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm." Woe to the one who seeks to damage the church of Jesus Christ.
